  • Solar+Storage is NOT a Microgrid

I was asked to check on someone’s “microgrid” and saw that they had solar and batteries that were installed. They said they had 2 power outages and their microgrids didn’t keep the power on. Well, low and behold it was just a solar+storage install and not really a microgrid. Without an automatic transfer switch and the other switchgear (which allows it to island itself from the grid) you don’t have a microgrid and unfortunately will still have your power shut off. Please make sure that yous solution is designed to do what you want it to do and don’t trust the sales guy that it’s a microgrid because you have solar and storage.
